What we collect
For the majority of visitors, the only information collected is done by Google Analytics. Their privacy policy, which details most of what they actually do, can be found here.
If you choose to comment on an article or page on this site, you will be using the Disqus system. Their privacy policy can be found here.
If you provide your email address in the “Subscribe for Email Updates” box on the right-hand side of the site, that address goes straight to FeedBurner, a Google service, and their privacy policy is here.
If you fill out the information on the Contact Page, the information you provide (your name, email address, and the message sent) will be provided to “This Week In Linux” along with your IP address, referring page, and very limited browser information. This is all provided by the FS Contact Form plugin for WordPress.
If you choose to participate in the Forum, your IP address, email address, and any other information you provide will be visible to the administrators of “This Week In Linux”.
What we do with the information we gather
To be frank… absolutely nothing. The Google Analytics data is just used to see what sort of visitors are seeing the website (browser / OS usage, what content is popular, etc.).
The Email Subscription information is used by FeedBurner to deliver updates to your email address when new content is posted to the site.
The Contact Form information is only used to ensure that the contact is not spam.
The information provided to the forum is used to ensure spam is filtered out.
The information will never be sold, traded, given away, printed out and posted on a bulletin board in a public place, etc. If the U.S. Government comes asking for information, and has a warrant in-hand, we will be forced to give it up, but other than that, nothing else will be done with it.
