C’mon man! I would love to hear from you more, you had some of the best quality linux content on youtube and you were in you’re way to making it on YT. So keep it up, both here and everywhere else on the interwebz!

Linus is actually pronounced as linux but with an s instead of x.
(lee – noose, if it makes sense)
There is a video of himself in youtube pronouncing his name.

also DOOM3 was already playable on linux right from the start or sometime later, with an installer.

I randomly found this linux news thing, I am not watching again, because you don’t seem to be putting any effort into it.

You should know more stuff than me, the average user, and I don’t even use linux primarily.

Actually, Linus pronounces it the same way I do, thanks very much… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IfHm6R5le0

My mistake indeed with Doom3. It’s been pointed out, but it was definitely my mistake. I haven’t been much of a gamer for the last few years.

You won’t be watching again? Cool. Have a good one!

        Jordan,

I feel the need to say that I hope you don’t let assholes like this guy get to you. You’re show is awesome and one of my favorite of any type
and definitely my favorite about Linux.

        Keep up the good work.

I still use gnome 2. I love how you can make shortcuts on the panels and that all the programs are organized by category.

Is This Week In Linux dead? You haven’t done one in a month : (

  • John

can’t belive you’re going to stop giving us news :( :(:(

  • No

Hey, would be cool if you could provide your videos without the need for flash. I could watch them at Youtube before, because they use HTML5, but now I can’t see them anymore. :-(

A real Podcast RSS would be even cooler.

I do find it interesting to note what Linus uses, but he is not any larger of a data point than any other Linux user out there. Yes, he made the kernel, but he is still using mostly applications that he did not make (i.e. his WM/DE of choice).

When it comes down to it, everyone is going to have different opinions about which environment is best and for which task. Personally, I use dwm on my programming/school machine. However, just for watching YouTube or goofing around on the internet or just playing some games, I actually use GNOME 3.

I agree that GNOME 3 wouldn’t work well for me while programming (although it wouldn’t necessarily hinder me since I do almost everything in a terminal multiplexer, anyway). However, FOR ME, while I am programming, GNOME 3 is just as bad as GNOME 2, which is just as bad Xfce, which is just as bad… you get the idea.

I don’t like the removal of features, yes. The thing is I don’t use just one environment for all tasks and I don’t plan to do so. That’s the beauty of the Linux community.

On that note, I would also like to note that I’ve been thinking of installing GNOME 3 for my less-than-computer-savvy mother. It would be ideal for her.

tl;dr try out all the WMs/DEs that interest you (and some that don’t) and find out what is best for you!

Yeah, sorry, but DOOM 3 has been available for Linux for a very long time- for all I knew, it was released with Linux support. Even better, as with most native Linux games, the minimum specifications are even lower than on other platforms, so it performs very well even on modest hardware.

So being able to use the engine for your own games would be fantastic at this point, although I’m really sick of first person shooters.

Great show as usual and have a great vacation!

  • Eldersnake90

Wonderful stuff, thanks for posting. I’d be interested to know what Linus thinks of Unity but I imagine it would be much the same as his thoughts on G3

    • Guest

I used to hate unity, and though I like it and I find it usable, it is a step down from regular Gnome 2.  However, it is a step up from Gnome 3.

first of all, we need to know if that so-called user on google+ is really linus, if that is confirmed then it is so but it could also be a crazy guy who uses linus nickname. and second linus once made it clear in interview that he is a very funny guy, not all he says you have to take serious. I do agree with him that gnome3 at the moment bit of mess but so was kde4 when it first came out. i haven’t really tried gnome3 yet because i like kde it bit more, linux mint + kde = nice :D

and again thx for the news, going away you said for two weeks nice

    keep up the good work!

Excuse. When you were talking about Doom 3 source and a Linux port, were you not aware all ID software games up to Rage has been avaiable for Linux with just a mere delay at like 3-4 months from the Windows launch? Or were you actually talking about the SDK which hasn’t been very complete. Anyways, good vid.

  • fadaken

thank you very much for taking the time to throw a video up prior to your vacation :D Oh and have fun!!!!
