Excellent! If I could write like this I would be well happpy. The more I see articles of such quality as this (which is rare), the more I think there could be a future for the Net. Keep it up, as it were.

I already replied to your email but copying here to spread the info:

The icon that reports you the problem probably has about icon which
indicates the name of the app and you can go from there. In this case,
the name of the app is palimpsest

$ rpm -qf /usr/bin/palimpsest

gnome-disk-utility-2.29.90-1.fc13.i686

So that's the binary name. Let's find out the source rpm name because
that's what bugzilla lists.

# rpm -qi gnome-disk-utily

Confirmed that the source rpm is the same name

A shortcut to file a bug report is

http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/

In this case,

http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/gnome-disk-utility

So the more important is how do you get to know whether this software
has a bug or your disk is really failing? You need to provide the
information requested in

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498115#c1

File it with the log and command output and we can know for sure.

Hope that helps.

Rahul: I would be more than happy to file a bug report and to do a future video on bug reporting. I've only filed one or two bugs before, is there an easy way to determine the exact app to report the bug on?

I'll send you a follow-up email on this.

Oh, one another thing. The sector checking software was written by Red Hat and included it in Fedora first and now has been pushed by Fedora to be part of GNOME itself. It might not be perfect but if you notice any bug reports, don't just assume that it will be fixed on its own because often such issues are very hardware specific, please report them and link them from your show notes.

In fact you could do a video on how to file a bug reports and simple tips and tricks. Email me if you need ideas and tips on doing that.

Rahul. Thanks for mentioning this. I went back and looked after some of the earlier comments, and that's definitely my mistake. Sorry about that!

Fedora does not have Tomboy installed by default anymore. What you see is Gnote, a port of C++ port of Tomboy.
