  1. After installing mesa-dri-drivers-experimental just log out then in again and you will have 3D accelleration.

  2. TWIL says:

Thanks, Sam! My brain just wasn’t working for some reason.

Fedora does not have Tomboy installed by default anymore. What you see is Gnote, a port of C++ port of Tomboy.

  5. TWIL says:

Rahul. Thanks for mentioning this. I went back and looked after some of the earlier comments, and that’s definitely my mistake. Sorry about that!

  6. Rahul Sundaram says:

Oh, one another thing. The sector checking software was written by Red Hat and included it in Fedora first and now has been pushed by Fedora to be part of GNOME itself. It might not be perfect but if you notice any bug reports, don’t just assume that it will be fixed on its own because often such issues are very hardware specific, please report them and link them from your show notes.

In fact you could do a video on how to file a bug reports and simple tips and tricks. Email me if you need ideas and tips on doing that.

  7. TWIL says:

Rahul: I would be more than happy to file a bug report and to do a future video on bug reporting. I’ve only filed one or two bugs before, is there an easy way to determine the exact app to report the bug on?

I’ll send you a follow-up email on this.

  8. Rahul Sundaram says:

I already replied to your email but copying here to spread the info:

The icon that reports you the problem probably has about icon which
indicates the name of the app and you can go from there. In this case,
the name of the app is palimpsest

    $ rpm -qf /usr/bin/palimpsest

    gnome-disk-utility-2.29.90-1.fc13.i686

So that’s the binary name. Let’s find out the source rpm name because
    that’s what bugzilla lists.

    # rpm -qi gnome-disk-utily

Confirmed that the source rpm is the same name

A shortcut to file a bug report is

    http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/

    In this case,

    http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/gnome-disk-utility

So the more important is how do you get to know whether this software
has a bug or your disk is really failing? You need to provide the
    information requested in

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498115#c1

File it with the log and command output and we can know for sure.

    Hope that helps.

Excellent! If I could write like this I would be well happpy. The more I see articles of such quality as this (which is rare), the more I think there could be a future for the Net. Keep it up, as it were.

  10. [..YouTube..] Your pants are awesome! Keep up the epic vids pal :D

  11. [..YouTube..] @VueltaAlPasado My pants? Thanks, I think? :)

  12. [..YouTube..] @thisweekinlinux btw, look at your comment board, in your channel. :)

  13. Ervine4 says:

[..YouTube..] @djwela fedora 13, yum install FTW

  14. kaddy01980 says:

[..YouTube..] arghhh fuck it…. i’m gonna try out Fedora 12…. i’ve never really given Fedora a good run before but i’ve used just about every other popular distro for quite a long period of time…. wish me luck… kaboom! :P

  15. [..YouTube..] @kaddy01980 Good luck! Fedora 12 is a great distro that I’ve been running for a few months now, and the beta for Fedora 13 comes out today!

  16. H4x0r18 says:

[..YouTube..] I’ve been really think about switching from Ubuntu to this. Just because Fedora looks more clean and appealing for my needs. Also Fedora isn’t bloated with games and such, just the important apps. What are your reasons for Fedora? And do you if its possible to upgrade from beta to latest release? Also nice Dr. Pepper pants. I have the same kind, lol I should definitely buy your t-shirt and then have my dr.pepper pants on. ;-)

  17. [..YouTube..] @H4x0r18 I actually went over my reasons in my second Ask TWIL video, if you’d like to watch it. Much easier than typing it over. :)

It’s definitely possible to upgrade to the latest release from a beta.

  18. MrSebzi says:

[..YouTube..] i really want to try this (not in a virutuel box) do you think i should switch from ubuntu to this? (sorry for my crappy english) :P

  19. [..YouTube..] @MrSebzi that’s entirely up to you. I would definitely suggest trying it in a virtualbox first to make sure you’re comfortable with the way to install new software and configure the system, then make sure to make a backup of your existing system before you install it, if you decide to.

  20. MrSebzi says:

[..YouTube..] @thisweekinlinux thx for replying :) and whats youre favourit linux distro? just want to know :P

  21. [..YouTube..] @MrSebzi no problem :) I like Fedora and Ubuntu pretty well, but I’m actually trying out Arch on my laptop right now, and it’s sort of awesome. Very lightweight and you only get what you tell it to install, nothing more, nothing less.

  22. MrSebzi says:

[..YouTube..] @thisweekinlinux cool thx the only thing i don’t like about the arch linux is the installasjon prosses but all in all a great os :)

  23. [..YouTube..] @MrSebzi I’ll admit, it’s sort of difficult to get going, but if you follow the Beginner’s Guide, it’s not too bad. I’m actually doing that right now

  24. MrSebzi says:

    [..YouTube..] @MrSebzi cool :D

  25. [..YouTube..] Oh My Good i Just STARTED TO LOVE LINUX!!! <3

  26. [..YouTube..] @gangstabadboy23 really? awesome!

  27. mguilmot says:

[..YouTube..] The final release is scheduled later this month (the 25th if all goes well).
Have to say, if you want the least problems with the install, use the full CD’s or DVD’s. I installed 12 first with a live CD and had a few troubles getting all to work. With the DVD all went perfect just with the install. Have no idea what is different, but there is a difference. Still love Fedora ever since the very first release years ago.
But you cannot call it light weight though :-)

  28. [..YouTube..] @mguilmot Yeah, kinda sad they had to push back again, but it’s probably for the best.
I know I used the DVD when I installed my laptop with Fedora, and it was not a problem at all.
“Light weight” is sort of a relative term. Gnome is lightweight compared to KDE, but it’s bloated compared to Xfce, Fluxbox, etc.

  29. mguilmot says:

[..YouTube..] @thisweekinlinux I don’t think it’s sad. If you look at their release policies, you should just be happy that they postponed the release. I prefer to have the release a week or two later than having one where you will need to use workarounds to make certain things work :-)

  30. mguilmot says:

[..YouTube..] I’ve never found the redhat based distro’s lightweight. I’ve used lots of distributions in the past, including Debian and Slackware, and they looked a lot faster, but then again, they’re a bit tougher to use (especially 6-7 years ago). When I compare Fedora now comparing with my Mandrake 8.2 years ago, we’ve come a LONG way. Nowadays everyone should be able to use linux (Fedora or Ubuntu e.g.) without any problems. Except maybe gamers who need a Win box for their games…

  31. [..YouTube..] @mguilmot Yeah, that’s a good point, but the bugs they’re waiting to fix, if I understand correctly, are really specific and mostly related to NFS.

  32. [..YouTube..] @mguilmot Exactly. Looking back, it’s amazing the amount of growth Linux distros have made in just the last few years.

  33. daeamarth says:

[..YouTube..] Lightweight? LOL Go look up “daeamarth acer netbook”

  34. [..YouTube..] @daeamarth Watching it right now. :)

  35. ygotcgftw says:

[..YouTube..] wow this look like ubuntu 9.10

  36. [..YouTube..] @ygotcgftw well, it looks like Gnome. :P Should be a similar interface across most Gnome-based distributions.
